2009 Capital Projects

Sanitary Restoration

·         For the closure of taxiway D it was recommended the closure occur on a Sunday night or a weekday night.  This will reduce the impact as the weekends are busy for night-time users

Pavement Upgrades

·         For the closure of taxiway D there were several suggestions:

o    Close the south portion on weekdays as the southern hangars are mostly private, weekend tenants.

o    Close the north portion on the weekend to minimize the impact on the commercial users on the north side.

o    Night paving would be best.

Safety and SMS

·         AVOP

o    AVOPs are required on all controlled movement surfaces.

o    Uncontrolled services can be used without an AVOP but private vehicles are not allowed.

o    Tug traffic will be permitted on controlled surfaces without an AVOP as long as it is towing an aircraft.

·         Emergency Response

o    Disabled aircraft are not to be serviced by personal vehicles.  An escort vehicle can be provided or the Authority can provide the equipment.

COPA Convention

·         NAV Canada comments:

o    There will be no circuit traffic due to the number of arrivals and departures.

o    There will be an extra resources in the tower to assist with the high number of traffic.

o    There is a route map available from NAV Canada for the convention.

o    NAV Canada will try to accommodate local users.

New Business

·         Vandalism and Theft

o    Contact RCMP if you are a victim of either; they will create a file number which will help to determine trends.  Simon Ross (RCMP) has been patrolling the airport on a regular basis.

o    These occurrences have been late at night and everyone is urged to report suspicious activity.

o    Video surveillance will be installed by the end of summer 2009.  It was suggested that signs be placed at the entrance of the airport stating the area is under surveillance to deter thieves.

·         Tenant Survey

o    A tenant survey will be released by fall 2009 to gather information from the users of the airport.  The authority is looking for suggestions on how to make the airport better, experiences with the services that exist, and what improvements can be made to the services we provide.  Survey results should be completed by winter 2009.

·         Spring Cleaning

o    Looking around the airport there are some tenant facilities that could use some cleaning up; including non aviation items stored on the lease.  The Authority is asking for pride of ownership as we approach the COPA Convention, the convention will be a showcase of the airport.

·         Lease Rates

o    Lease rates are revenue generators for the airport as there are no landing fees.  The revenue is used to support the Airport’s operational costs and capital restoration.

o    Lease rates are determined by market value.  The Calgary Airport Authority property department uses the non aviation commercial land values of the surrounding area to determine the rates.  Questions and appeals can be directed through the property department, a meeting can be arranged by Larry Stock.

·         Airport Master Plan

o    The Airport 20 year Master Plan was completed in February 2009 any question or concerns regarding the plan can be directed to Larry Stock.
